TRAINING SCHEDULE
The counselor training is for three full days, one day a week. This day is flexible depending on what days are best for the attendees and the teacher.

The first requirement of course is to have a non-judgmental heart towards the many teens and women who come to us for free pregnancy tests and further help.
An effective Birthline counselor:
- Is reliable in attendance and punctuality,
- Is not prejudice in any way,
- Does not pre judge the client,
- Is a good and willing listener,
- A person who puts themselves in the client’s shoes before responding,
- Respects the beliefs of the client, regardless of what those may be,
- Is strongly convicted regarding the sacredness of the life of this unborn child,
- Willingly follows the teachings and methods taught by Birthline, and,
- Is willing to jump in and help out in all areas of work when she/he is not busy in the counseling room.
All counselors must first begin doing the same jobs as all other volunteers. That is, learning by doing the various jobs in the center. This means that they begin volunteering in the donation room, then, learn the clerical jobs that go with helping clients when they come in for tests and for material item assistance. They will then learn to answer the phones, and carefully respond to the various types of phone calls, including those callers seeking an abortion.
When the executive director is not in the office, it is the counselor who is responsible for keeping things going and directing other volunteers.
Training Provided
This is the only job that is not an on-the-job training.
Once you have learned each of the others jobs, you will be given the opportunity to attend a three day seminar for becoming a counselor. This involves one day a week for three weeks.
Counseling is not for everyone, and because of this, we give each volunteer the choice of doing whatever job they prefer. You may come in wanting to do one thing but decide you enjoy doing something else better. That is never a problem!
